Our Farm Story

 Our soap-making story began about 20 years ago at the apple butter festivals in Virginia. I learned the craft there, and for the past 10 years, we’ve been making soap here at The Willow Stone Farm.

 There’s plenty to keep us busy before we ever get to the soap. We feed and care for the animals, then turn to the orchard: trimming, tending, keeping the weeds down, and harvesting when the time comes. We’ve grown elderberries here for about 20 years, expanding to a bigger scale in 2015. We also grow figs and a selection of other berries.

 Our chickens and quail give us eggs. The ducks and geese give us eggs, too, while helping keep bugs under control. For years, pet rabbits were part of farm life as well. We started raising them in 2015 and have since moved on.

 Then there are the gardens. Iris beds, wildflowers, peonies, lilies, roses, and hydrangeas bring color through the seasons. We tend herbs and horseradish, too. Some days the work is feeding, trimming, weeding, and harvesting. Other days, the best thing to do is sit back for a moment and enjoy what we’ve built.

 That’s the life behind The Willow Stone Farm and the things we make here: handcrafted soaps, botanical body care, loose leaf teas, and herbal tinctures. It’s a busy, changing place, made with care and meant to be enjoyed.
